About us

There are many silent voices in society – isolated, demonised or unheard. Silent Cities is a social enterprise which aims to build creative environments where silent voices can flourish.

We formally incorporated in March 2010. We are a grass roots organisation, that is driven and shaped by the need of the people we work with. We work with isolated and disadvantaged individuals and groups who do not have a voice and where appropriate, we help them develop skills to support them into work into the creative industries.

The three steps

Step 1. CREATIVE PROJECTS
The entry point for most service users is through a creative project to engage and build confidence. We usually work in partnership with charities and social enterprises to deliver the creative projects, which can be anything from user-led film making, to inter-generational projects.

Step 2. CREATIVE VOLUNTEERING. For those who are engaged and want to develop their skills further, we offer a range of creative volunteering opportunities and on-the-job training in the creative industries.

Step 3. CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP/SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

Through our newly established Digital Media Centre, funded by the Sheffield Community Network, we support people into self-employment/social enterprise. Find our more about our Digital Media Centre.
